About Me

I love writing. and talking, but not usually about myself.  However, as this section is called About Me, I suppose that’s what I ought to write about.

I live in Derbyshire fairly close to that ribbon of roadworks known as the M1 motorway.

My family often refer to me as being a grumpy old man.  I think that’s down to them comparing me to the gentlemen on the TV program of the same name.  I suppose me being about six weeks older than Rick Wakeman probably does mean they may have a point.

Can’t say I’ve got a real hobby.  Discovered I’d more than a few interests when I started listing them though.  Forex, Horse Racing, Reading, Walking the dog, Live music; mostly classical and rock.  I’ve always been a a bit of gardener as well.  Like Mr Titchmarsh, I’m from ‘up North’ and I’m four weeks older than him.

I have qualifications in several diverse fields of life.  Not all of them the industry recognised qualifications you understand.  They are mostly QBE’s. (Qualified By Experience).

I started my working life as an electrician. Working in peoples homes, in shops and offices and occasionally in factories.  This is the one job where I had to get my City & Guilds and be officially qualified.

Since then I’ve been in several sales jobs, often promoted to management.  I think that was because I was more productive organising others from the office rather than just chatting to customers for hours.

Myself and a partner owned a print and copy shop business.  I’ve done quite a bit of mail order sales for myself.  Most recently I was project manager for a computer networks company.  That involved travelling all over the UK.

To help with some of my own businesses I’ve studied marketing, psychology, copywriting and personal development for over 20 years.  I can’t claim to be an expert on it.  On the other hand I’m far from being a novice in the subjects.

I’ve recently started to learn how to push the right computer buttons to enable me to convey some of my knowledge and experiences to the rest of the world via the Internet in the hope that it may be of use to someone.

I hope you at least enjoy some of my ramblings even if you do not find them useful.

Best wishes

Tom
